BELTA: Lukashenko partakes in One Belt, One Road summit in Beijing

BEIJING, 14 May (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko took part in the opening of the One Belt, One Road summit in Beijing, BelTA has learned.

The large-scale summit opened at the Chinese National Convention Center on 14 May. The forum brought together delegations from about 130 countries, including 29 heads of state.

The strategic concept of the Silk Road Economic Belt was initiated by China President Xi Jinping in September 2013. It is aimed at developing the innovative model of interaction and a new mechanism of interregional cooperation. In conjunction with the initiative to build the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road the concept was titled as the One Belt, One Road initiative.

This concept prioritizes the political coordination between countries, interconnection of infrastructure, free movement of capital, and strengthening of unity between nations.

Belarus was one of the first countries to support the initiative of the Chinese government to implement the project. The country is involved in two out of for key routes of the new land Silk Road.
